Oleander...I love this plant, but if you are considering planting one in your garden keep in mind that these grow quite large. Pluses: flowers year-round, drought tolerant & it is host to the beautiful Oleander Moth. Minuses: it can grow up to 10 feet high and 6 feet high & more importantly, it should never, ever, be planted too close to a house. If burned the entire plant is highly toxic. I have not seen any literature on this but I'd also avoid including oleander cuttings in the compost pile.
Whoa, I just made this plant sound real bad...but it sure is pretty...

I like reviews that give both the positive and negative points about a plant, so you can make an informed choice. However it's all theoretical for me since I'm about 7 zones north of you. I enjoyed looking at all of the tropical lushness on your blog.

I'm probably in your same zone - and I'm amazed they don't tell people how toxic it is - I always wash hands very carefully after touching. If my husband gets out of hand I threaten to make him some oleander tea.
