Now that my camera is broken the garden has come furiously into life...it almost feels like spring out there! Our Thunbergia Grandiflora (blue sky vine) is blooming for the first time since planted (talk about overflowing beauty!), our Tagetes Lemonii (Mount Lemon Marigold) is producing what seems like yellow fireworks, our Barleria Cristata (Philippine Violet) is also putting on a show, and so is the Clerodendrum Speciosissimum (Pagoda Flower)...even the bees, birds, and butterflies are visiting us in record numbers! Ugh! I am taking mental pictures but they are so hard to download to the computer...
I "met" (online) Dan from the Edible Plant Project out in Gainsville...he shared some terrific info with me about Edgewater Permaculture, an edible gardening group in FL (near New Smyrna). Please visit both sites to learn, volunteer time, $, or seeds.
Also, in the Edgewater Permaculture site you can find a helpful free on-line permaculture booklet. I have been for about two years toying with the idea of starting my own .org and begin by trying to transform our neighborhood, these sites and the wonderful work these guys are doing is the kick in the pants that I needed to get moving.
Lastly, if you are into growing tropical edibles check out the Yahoo group Taro and Ti, an online community of sharing people.
Thank you again Dan!
We finally got the first bunch of cinder blocks to build sturdy permanent raised veg beds!!!! So we are working on that, planting, transplanting & I am also working on a mosaic project with left over broken tiles I have been saving for years...lots going on, lots of beautiful stuff to photograph and no camera! :-(
