Did you take this in your garden? I've never seen one before. :)

So, what is your favorite chocolate?

Hi Mary! Good to hear from you!

Yes, all pictures are taken in our garden/house(only once I posted one or two pictures from elsewhere)...this is a black swallowtail butterfly. Its host plants are the ones in the parsley (e.g., fennel, carrot, Dill, parsley, Queen Anne's lace, etc.) Nectar plants, well, I have seen them eating from just about every plant here. If you want to have some in your garden all you'd have to do is get a few pots of parsley (in my experience their favorite) and wait for them to come.

Fav Chocolate: Ritter Sport. I German chocolate from my days living in that area...yum! Fortunately they are selling it here in a bunch of places. And don't even think of mailing me some because the seeds were 'free'...really, a lot of people have given me (and still are giving me) free plants & seeds...you are now in the circle of trust of free plants! :--)

PS: I have not forgotten that Lady of the Night cutting...I've just been lazy :-)

Later,
GF

You know, with all the flowers and veg you have in your garden I am positive you've seen this butterfly...I am thinking you've seen the top side of their wings, which is less showy...they are usually pretty twitchy, like yellow sulphurs, moving from one place to the other like they gotta run back home to make dinner for a family of eight...that might be the reason why you might not have seen the underside of their wings...

...this pic is like looking up her skirt :--)

I'll just have to slow down... I had a pot of parsley on my front porch this summer that was devoured by caterpillars. I figured they were Swallowtails. Which reminds me I should plant some more parsley on the front porch for them. I have a few parsley sprouts growing in my vegetable garden right now. I spray for caterpillars in there...

Don't worry about the cutting! Does it like cold weather? Maybe it'd be best if we waited till Spring?
