Star Fruit Tree
I love, love, love this tree. The leaves are so delicate (just look at that pinkish new growth!) and the flowers are just to die for...tiny little soft pink blooms that look like something right out of a piece of Japanese art. And that fruit! How yummy! Our tree has been transplanted three times (make up your mind already, right?) and is still behaving as if he was staying with a normal family. I have considered using 6-6-6 fertilizer...how ominous...but I have a strong resistance to fertilizers, once I build up the compost pile I will shower it with compost gifts instead. Feed the soil, not the plant dummy! :-)

Hi GF, I've been using COF - the fertilizer mix in the book 'gardening when it counts' on my fruit trees - avocadoes, mango, peach, and figs. They love it!
I'd like to learn more about your star fruit tree! I wonder if it could be grown from seed. I have a spot for a new fruit tree, maybe star fruit would be a good idea. :)
Oh maaaaan, how do you make COF? hummm...oh, wait don't reply to that yet, I think you posted it in your blog, I'll check it there.
Thanks for the tip!
I bought my starfruit from HomeDepot...a no name type tree...that was before I had the Best FL Fruiting Plants book. You are in luck because before you buy I can give you the best cultivars straight from the tree. Here we go: Kary (the author thinks this one is one of the sweetest), Sri Kembanqan, Arkin, B-17, Hart, Bell & Fwang Tung.
If you want to chance it I can save you seeds if mine fruits this year (I transplanted it not long ago and I am not sure if it is mad at me since it has not flowered yet :-)
